Factorio reviews have been largely positive since the game’s release, with many praising it as a game that one can easily lose hours in as they try to master its complex systems. Factorio has been consistently popular for years now, but anyone intrigued by the premise and wanting to see what all the fuss is about will soon have to pay a bit more than usual.

As confirmed by the official Factorio Twitter account, the game is getting a price hike of $5 starting Thursday, January 26. On that day, Factorio will go from costing $30 to $35, with the inflation since the game’s original Steam release cited as the reason for the increase. While some gamers will have no problem with this and feel as though Factorio is still worth it at $35, it’s safe to say others are not going to be happy about this development, particularly when taking the game’s age into account.

Factorio continues to pass sales milestones and remains a big hit on Steam, so it will be interesting to see if the price increase hurts its momentum at all. Word of mouth and the game’s multitude of positive reviews will likely ensure that Factorio continues to generate interest, even with its price increase. Factorio also has an expansion on the way that should keep fans engaged.

Gaming price increases are nothing new, though it is rare for a game that’s already been released to suddenly increase its price. Most of the time gaming price increases happen with new titles, like when the industry started moving to $70 for next-gen games, for instance. However, there have been times in the past where games have increased in price, and sometimes it impacts gaming hardware as well.

For example, Sony increased the PS5 price in various countries across the world, citing the current economic climate as its reason for doing so. So far, Xbox and Nintendo have managed to avoid increasing the price of their consoles, but it’s possible more gaming price hikes could happen in the months ahead.

Factorio is available now for PC and Switch.
